Coromandel Fishermen

Based on the results of intensive fieldwork and guided by ethnographic conventions, this work forms the first full-length enthnography of Pattanavars of Coromandel coast, South India. This study provides a ‘thick description’, on the realms of ecology, cognition, economy, household, marriage, kinship, cosmology, belief system and social control of Pattanavars. The ethnographic discription and analsis vividly narrates the artisanal fishing culture in detail. This book offers refreshing anthropological inputs on coastal culture of the Coromandel coast in Puducherry Union Territory.
