The study of dialects and maintenance of varieties by minority groups in a multi-lingual country like India is essential for taking proper language planning policies in the present world of modernization and globalization. This book deals with seven dialects of Telugu spoken in Puducherry. The study is an original contribution in the area of sociolinguistics. The study explores the factors that are responsible for the maintenance or loss of minority language, viz., Telugu in the Union Territory of Puducherry.
